Who We Are:

Started in the early Nineteenth century, this halwa was a famous of the Nizams. Made out of Jauzi a spice from Turkey, the Nizam loved the sweet so much he decided to name the shop after the nickname of one of his sons.

Hameedi Confectioners is the destination for sweet lovers in Hyderabad City and is more than a century old. It is the only eatery in Hyderabad where the world famous Turkish Dish Jouzi Halwa is made. The sweet is a royal dish and contains Kesar, Dry Fruits, Milk, Pure Ghee, Jauzi- A speciality spice from Turkey and Zafran.

History:

100 Years Mohammed Hussain, a fifteen year old Turkish boy, decided to start his business and set up a sweet shop in Hyderabad. It was sometime in the early nineteenth century, and this shop was also the first in the city during the rule of the Nizam, as claims go.

The sweet shop sold everything Turkish, and one of them happened to be the Jauzi Halwa. Being the only sweet shop to offer this, word spread around, and the then Nizam (last Nizam) himself tasted the sweets in the shop. The Nizam loved the sweet so much that he announced that the shop be named after the nickname of one of his sons. That’s how the shop came to be called Hameedi. The Nizam also sent a letter to him. This 100-year-old shop looks old but there is no compromise on the number of dishes being prepared in the shop, which is still a favourite with the true blue Hyderabadis who love their classic sweets. Try their traditional Jouzi Halwa, Ashrafi and Badam ki Jaalis for the real Hyderabadi taste.

Jouzi Halwa:

Jouzi Halwa is supposedly the most loved sweet of the Last Nizam Mir Osman Ali Asaf Jah VII and would be supplied to the palace for all their functions.

The Halwa is now so popular that people from Saudi, America, Canada, and Europe take it back when they come to visit Hyderabad.

The sweet can be stored for a month without any added preservatives. One should make sure that they don’t expose it to water or store it in fridge.
